Gesture Announcement 2/7 - 3/6/2020
This small collection of my gestural watercolor figures spans well over 20 years of drawing groups. What began as entertaining practice for keeping my hands and eyes coordinated (and busy), has evolved into a more elaborate and nuanced body of work that frankly took me a while to appreciate. While this figurative subject is a departure from my larger body of artwork, it has managed to subtly inform and fine tune my day to day art practice. I approached all my figure drawing groups as a form of visual and tactile exercise. Now, in retrospect, it was the intuitive aspects of this practice, the color, brush marks, and the overall vibe of any given drawing group, on any given night, that captured these random moments and ultimately revealed a palette, and a figurative form that is characteristically my own.
